Cable problems
Cable snapped, or the door is hanging lopsided?
- Cables replaced in pairs
- Drums & brackets checked
- Door leveled and tested

Lift cables run from the bottom corners of the door up to the drums on the spring tube. When one frays through or slips off its drum, the door lifts on one side only, twists, and can end up off its track. Garage door cable replacement is a job for a technician, because those cables are tied directly into the spring tension.
Rust is the usual culprit in Huntington Beach and the other beach cities. It starts at the bottom bracket, where water and salt sit, and works up the strands. New cables go on as a matched pair, the drums and brackets get inspected, and the springs are trimmed until the door hangs level.

Cable repair & replacement
We fix the cable and whatever made it fail.
Lift cable replacement
New galvanized cables on both sides, cut to length and set to equal tension.
Drum re-spool
Cables that jumped the drum are re-wound in the grooves so they stack correctly.
Bottom bracket replacement
Rusted or bent brackets replaced, since they're where most cables let go.
Balance & level check
Springs adjusted after the swap so the door rises flat and stays put halfway.
Where cable trouble starts
At the bottom bracket
Moisture and salt collect at floor level, so strands rust and break there first.
At the drum
Slack in the cable, often from a door that hit something on the way down, lets it jump the groove.
Signs of cable trouble
Look along both sides of the door for:
- Frayed or rusty strandsBroken wires sticking out of the cable near the floor.
- Door lifts crookedOne side rises first, or the bottom edge isn't level.
- Loose cable hanging downThe cable has slipped off its drum or snapped.
- Door twists or bindsUneven lift pulls the door against the track.
- Bang followed by a slack cableSometimes a spring break throws a cable off too.
Safety first. Cables hold the full force of the springs. Never loosen a bottom bracket or pull on a cable while the door is closed and the springs are wound.
