Door off track
Door crooked, jammed or hanging at an angle?
- Door secured first
- Track straightened or replaced
- Rollers & cables checked

A garage door off track is one of the riskier problems we see. The door is partly unsupported, the springs are still under tension, and one wrong push can bring it down. If yours is hanging crooked, stop using the opener and keep everyone clear.
Most off-track doors have a cause behind them: a car that tapped the door, a cable that snapped on one side, rollers that wore out, or track bolts that rusted loose in the salt air. We secure the door, find that cause, straighten or replace the track, set new rollers where needed and test it through its full travel.

What an off-track repair includes
Getting the door back in is half the job. Keeping it there is the other half.
Securing the door
We clamp and support the door before anything moves, so it can't drop while we work.
Track realignment
Vertical and horizontal tracks straightened, re-plumbed and bolted tight to the jamb and ceiling.
Track replacement
Kinked or crushed sections replaced when bending them back would leave a weak spot.
Rollers, cables & hinges
Rollers re-seated or replaced, cables re-spooled and cracked hinges swapped.
Why doors come off track
Impact
A bumper or trailer hits the door and pushes rollers out. Usually one side, sometimes the whole bottom section.
Uneven lift
A snapped cable or broken spring on one side tilts the door until it jumps the track.
Worn parts
Loose bolts, rusted brackets and chipped rollers let the track spread until the door slips.
Signs your door is coming off track
Catch it early and the fix is smaller:
- Gap between roller and trackA roller that rides near the edge is about to come out.
- Door stops halfway and bindsThe door is twisting in the opening.
- Visible bend in the trackEven a slight kink can catch a roller every cycle.
- Loud pop or scrapeOften the sound of a roller jumping out.
- One side of the door lowerPoints to a cable or spring problem that pulls it out of line.
Safety first. Don't try to hammer the track back or force the door down. A door off its track can fall without warning, and the springs above it are still loaded.
